The Common Platform Enumeration (CPE™) is a "dictionary" of common IT systems, platforms, and packages encoded in a standardized naming format that is suitable for machine interpretation and processing. Via its specification documents, CPE also includes procedures for creating names, comparing names, a language for constructing "applicability statements" that combine CPE names with simple logical operators, and a way to create and maintain public (such as the Official CPE Dictionary, which currently includes 43,000+ CPE names) and/or private CPE dictionaries.
